The Stoli Hotel

I recently had the pleasure of attending “The Stoli Hotel” party in partnership with Wired Magazine.  I am a day late on this post as this event took place Wednesday night, 5/14.  The hangover and useless state I was left in the following day (Both signs of a solid night!) are to blame.

“Absolut” Brilliance

NYC is probably one of THE most expensive places to go out and have a good time.  $5 for a domestic $6/$7 for an import is standard at the CHEAPEST places, and a cocktail, forget about it.  At least $8, sometimes $15, depending on the place.   Unless you have a career in banking (If you are you don’t have time to go out and drink) you probably struggle to afford these steep prices, which causes one like myself and most people I hang out with to look for the right deals.

Last night I found a great one…

Mantra, on the corner of 52nd and 2nd will start your Thursday night off right.  A FREE OPEN Bar (No Cover Whatsoever, and No Catch – I was skeptical myself) from 6PM – 7PM offers the Absolut Vodka drink of your choice…  There is even a nice little balcony overlooking 2nd Ave.  So Don’t forget to tip your bartenders and enjoy!

This should save you at least $30… Maybe $50 if you’re like some I know.

Philly vs. NYC

So I was reading the paper (Philadelphia Weekly) on my way to work yesterday, and came across an article about Philly invading Brooklyn.  Now I don’t know if all you know this but our little sizzup operation is split between New Yorkers (and yes one from Brooklyn) and Philadelphians (me).   The Frank White Gallery in Clinton Hill has in stated a new monthly party called Philly Invades Brooklyn.  With all this talk about Philly becoming the 6th borough, and thousands of New Yorkers moving to Philly every year, its interesting to see that many Philadelphians are making the move to NYC.  No one talks about that though.  But hey for all you Philly expats in NYC go check out the Philly Invades Brooklyn party next month!

Let us know how it goes!

For The NYC Wine Enthusiast

For all you NYC Wine enthusiasts out there, and those of you planning to visit the NYC area I have compiled some useful info about various wine bars throughout the different parts of the city.

Upper East Side:

Location: On 2nd Ave b/w 77th and 78th St.

Great Service, Wine Selection, and they make a tasty Sangria. Also, try their Brushetta and Panini’s… They’re amazing! Not to mention the outdoor seating, weather permitting of course.

Midtown West:

Park Blue:

Location: 58th St. between 6th and 7th ave.

For all your tourists and theatre goers who want to enjoy all that midtown has to offer try out this gem. Half bottles allow you to try a few different types of wine in one sitting. And try the cheeseburger!

East Village

Bar Veloce

Location: 2nd Ave and 11th st.

This quaint little East Village locale is perfect for the successful 20-somethings with a taste for sophistication and jazz. A big screen TV shows an endless stream of silent black and white movies while you are surrounded by endless wine racks, perfect for endless drinking.

D.O.C. Wine Bar

Location: 83 N 7th St. in Brooklyn

If you feel like venturing out of Manhattan, or better yet you live in Brooklyn, you will not be sorry you tried out this intimate little hideaway. The wine is affordable ($20-$35 a bottle), not to mention their great selection… As for the food, great breads, cheeses, salads, panini’s and more… Perfect to nibble on while you share a glass, or better yet a bottle.

These are just a few of the better spots I’ve been able to sample while living in this great city… Of course I’m always open to hear about others… Feel free to comment.

erin express

well i know you all think that nyc is the place to be for st. pattys but let me tell you philly is where its at!  the erin express (a city wide and city organized pub crawl) is only the best idea anyone ever had and we definitely need to think of ways to incorporate it into more holidays or random weekends.  basically its an old school free yellow school bus that takes you to a bunch of the irish pubs around town that have coinciding drink specials.  it goes all day which is awesome we over here at sizzup lovee afternoon drinking almost as much as we love outside drinking (must be all those days spent at the cafe–yea psu)… i went on the pre run last weekend  (i missed the test run the weekend before unfortunately)  and boy did it make me miss college.  and in true bar tour fashion, groups make their own tees, beads are in abundance and intoxicated penn state chants arise (yes we are in philadelphia) and i cant wait to do the real thing this saturday…see you there!

ps probably one of the best shirts i saw last weekend…”too old for college, not the erin express”

i’ll bring you updates on the official run next week!
