Which Cocktail Would YOU Revive?

Since I was delinquent yesterday in my posting I have decided to make up for it by dedicating Day 10 of Cocktails to not one, but five special drinks that were once the rage and are now on the verge of “extinction” (“5 Cocktails That Deserve a Comeback”).

1.The Bronx - Buried behind the likes of The “Manhattan” back in the 1930s and ’40s, this once popular drink seems long forgotten.

Ingredients:

2 ounces gin, 1/2 ounce orange juice, 1/2 ounce dry vermouth, 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth

2The Stinger – A dessert drink with a minty taste made famous by the 1957 movie “Kiss Them For Me” with Carie Grant and Jayne Mansfield.

Ingredients:

2 ounces brandy, 1 ounce white or green crème de menthe (You can substitute fresh mint, but that would just remove the “authenticity” of the drink wouldn’t it?)

3 – The Black Velvet - A beer cocktail layered with goodness (AKA Guinness) and Champagne.

Ingredients:

1 Part Guinness, 1 Part Dry Champagne

4 – The Rob Roy – This drink was probably stymied by the scarcity of bitters as it was not readily available to the average consumer… I actually had not even heard of Angostura bitters until I studied abroad in Australia. Those Aussies are crazy about their Vodka & Lemon Lime Bitters.  Now that this filler is distributed worldwide maybe this once popular drink can be revived.

Ingredients:

1.5 ounces Scotch whisky, 0.25 ounces sweet vermouth, 1 dash orange bitters

5 – The Hot Tody – I know what you’re thinking…  This drink never disappeared right?  Well no, not exactly, but the original version has been slightly modified.  As the article states, the drink stems from the Scots attempt to disguise the flavor of low-quality Scotch.  Now, to all you undergrads out there, you’ve gotta be able to relate!

Ingredients:

2 ounces Scotch whisky, boiling water, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 4 sugar cubes

So… don’t be shy, give these a try and lets hear which one YOU think ought to be revived!
