Since my partners and I began SizzUp, I’ve begun reading numerous blogs, namely those with other recipes to compliment our own. One blog I have come across that I rather enjoy is Cooking With Kimberly.

She’s always got the most original dishes and even the occasional drink… Like this one typically found in Hispanic communities:

The Horchata (Click For Full Background)

Ingredients: horchata.jpg

1 Cup Long Grain Rice (Minute rice works too)
4 Cups Milk (Substitute half with water if you like)

1/2 can sweetened condensed milk

1 tsp Vanilla

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1-2 Shots of Brandy, Rum or Tequila (Your choice as to which or how much, they all taste great!)


1. Blend together all ingredients in a blender.

2. You can serve as is, on ice, or add ice in the blender.

The Salty Dog

In my daily search of the net for cool new various concoctions I came accross the following site: TheArtOfdrink.com

The author of this blog is a bartender and apparently spends his free time much like I do… Supplying the public with useful information on drinking along with some pretty cool recipes… His most recent post is what first caught my eye (Mainly cause I like the name, but it sounds pretty good too):

1½ oz Gin (or Vodka)
3 oz Grapefruit Juice

Instructions: Rim a highball glass with salt and pack the glass with ice. Add gin and grapefruit juice. Garnish with a cherry.

This is a simple drink like the Screwdriver, but if you use gin it will make it a little more complex. The salt ads a pleasant flavour not found in most cocktails (It also helps reduce the bitter taste of the grapefruit juice) and you could probably drink a lot of these because the sugar content is exceptionally low compared to the vast majority of sugar laden cocktails. Best enjoyed on a hot summer day.
