Another Reason To Keep On Drinking

“Giving up alcohol can lead to depression” is the title of a recent article in the UK’s Telegraph.

New research has found that Moderate drinkers who give up alcohol are likely to suffer from mild depression.

Science has often provided proof that drinking offers some protection against heart disease, certain types of stroke and some forms of cancer… But apparently becoming stone cold sober can “reduce the brain’s ability to produce new neurons, cells which have a role in regulating stress levels,” says a University of North Carolina Study – The first known link between abstinence from alcohol drinking and depression.  It seems that at the root of it all, no matter how much we drink, we’re all alcoholics!!! To some extent.

Maybe instead of rehab clinics where alcoholics are “cleansed” we should have “moderation” clinics where patients can be coached to drink in a more responsible manner?  That or alcoholics coming out of rehab should be immediately put on a healthy dose of anti-depressants (If they are not already).

In either case this article just supports my case for my nightly dose…

So support your local tavern tonight and every night and keep the fridge stocked.  It’s good for your psyche!

From ‘Beer Pong’ To ‘Pong Toss’

It seems a “crisis” has been averted as “Beer Pong” has become ‘Pong Toss’ (See “Rated ‘T’ for Teen” Post).

Sure it still has the same premise as Beer Pong however all references to alcohol have been removed from the game. That is the only way the game could reasonably be marketed to teens yet it is still receiving cold stares from critics who say that it is just a way for teens to practice for Beer Pong before they get to college.

Well let me tell all you people a thing or two about the game of Beer Pong… If you think a video game called “Pong Toss” can prepare you for the real thing you simply haven’t played the game.  There are too many factors to take into account when actually playing the game that you do not have to adjust for when playing a video game:

Extra, Extra…

“Beer Turns Men into Women!”

Yesterday, scientists for Health Canada suggested that men should take a look at their beer consumption, considering the results of a recent analysis that revealed the presence of female hormones in beer.

The theory is that drinking beer makes men turn into women. To test the finding, 100 men were fed 6 pints of beer each. It was then observed that 100% of the men gained weight, talked excessively without making sense, became overly emotional, couldn’t drive, failed to think rationally, argued over nothing, and refused to apologize when wrong.

No further testing is planned.

Last Call

… To take part in this month’s SizzUp Contest.  The goal, to create the strangest, best tasting cocktail.

I have received about 50 entries thus far by comment & via e-mail, two of which stick out… but its not over yet, so get your entry in today.  Contest ends in just two days (7/10)!!!

Maybe something like this will do the trick:

Dirty Mother

40mL vodka
30mL Tia Maria
1 cup cream
1 cup milk

Pour the alcoholic drinks and ice cubes into a shaker. After that add cream and milk that you have previously mixed – one cup of milk on one cup of cream, of course, in a large bowl. Shake strongly for around ten seconds, and strain it through a strainer into a glass with ice in it. Decorate with a cherry and straw.

‘I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell’

… Is the title of the movie that will take the infamous best-selling memoir of Tucker Max to the big screen (This movie better be rated “R”).

Matt Czuchry, Jesse Bradford and Geoff Stults have all signed on for the project.  Czuchry will play Tucker Max, while Bradford and Stults will play Max’s best friends.

For those of you who do not know who Tucker Max is (If you are reading my website you really should) check out his website www.TuckerMax.com for some of his stories or better yet buy the book.

Rated “T” For Teen

It seems that Connecticut’s attorney general isn’t happy that a video game called “Frat Party Games: Beer Pong” was rated suitable for children as young as 13.

“Beer Pong” is a downloadable game for the world’s newest cult gaming platform the Nintendo Wii.

This is one of the few “alcohol” related complaints I actually agree with, although I do feel ratings on video games are futile at best. I know that when I was a child video game ratings were never paid attention to by my parents. If they didn’t want me playing a game, as in Mortal Kombat (I think this was the only game they didn’t want me playing), they just wouldn’t let me have it. The rating had absolutely nothing to do for it.

The onus of responsibility when it comes to these things SHOULD lie with the parents rather than the video game developers, although I cannot fathom how a game entitled “Beer Pong” can be rated “T” for Teen when the drinking age is 21, seems like pure stupidity! Clearly whoever rated this game lacks some serious common sense.

Hopefully they re-rate and re-release this game though – I’d sure like to play!
