Surviving Work/Class After Thirsty Thursday

posted in Recipes |

Every drinker knows that the cure for the common hangover is a nice cold Bloody Mary first thing in the morning… The most common preperation is as follows:

Bloody Marys, and the non-alcoholic Virgin Mary, are frequently served in the morning (as are Mimosas and Screwdrivers), although they are a popular drink later in the day as well. (Traditionally, a Bloody Mary should not be served after six PM.)

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 parts vodka
  • 3 parts tomato juice
  • Ground salt and pepper
  • 6 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
  • 5 drops Tabasco
  • 1 tsp. celery salt
  • 1 tsp. horseradish
  • Dash of lemon or lime juice
  • Dash of orange juice (optional)

May be shaken vigorously or stirred lazily, as desired. Garnish with a celery stalk; a skewer of olives, pickles, carrots, mushrooms, or other vegetables; or even meat (salami, shrimp, etc.) and cheese. Occasionally, pickled asparagus is also used.

For those who need a little bit more of a “kick start” to your day this variation may be even more helpful:

Mexican Mary – “Tequila Bloody Mary”

  • 6 oz Tomato Juice
  • 1.5 oz Tequila
  • 6 dashes Worchestershire sauce
  • 1 dash tabasco sauce
  • 1 punch celery salt
  • 1 lime wedge
  • 1 pickled chili pepper

First fill a tall glass with ice. Add the tomato juice, tequila, L&P Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco and celery salt. Stir. Garnish with a lime wedge and chilli pepper.
