If there was such a thing would be Hoboken, not Philly (Not that I live in either)… Sorry Carly. Maybe we can give Philly title of “7th Borough”. I must thank you however as you have provided me with the perfect lead in to what I was about to talk about…
HOBOKEN ST. PATRICK’S DAY
Yes, that’s right, it deserves its own line in this post. The only day of the year where New Yorkers like me commute to New Jersey to, that’s right, DRINK! It is like a mass exodus, the subways & path trains are packed all in the “wrong” direction as early as 8 AM on a Saturday. One might confuse it for a normal work day if it weren’t for the sea of green and smell of cheap beer.
Now I know what you’re thinking… Its February 29th a full two weeks before St. Patrick’s Day so why do I bring this up now? Well for those of you who are not aware Hoboken has done something special, something special enough to be worthy of being called the “6th borough”.
Once upon a time, Hoboken, clearly sick of being neglected on the real St. Patrick’s Day (I can only assume), started their own St. Patrick’s Day tradition. The first Saturday of every March (For those of you who don’t know the date that is tomorrow 3/1/08) Hoboken holds its own parade. Year by year its popularity has grown. Now it is one of the biggest party days of the year in the tri-state area, probably even bigger than the night before Thanksgiving.
So I was reading the paper (Philadelphia Weekly) on my way to work yesterday, and came across an article about Philly invading Brooklyn. Now I don’t know if all you know this but our little sizzup operation is split between New Yorkers (and yes one from Brooklyn) and Philadelphians (me). The Frank White Gallery in Clinton Hill has in stated a new monthly party called Philly Invades Brooklyn. With all this talk about Philly becoming the 6th borough, and thousands of New Yorkers moving to Philly every year, its interesting to see that many Philadelphians are making the move to NYC. No one talks about that though. But hey for all you Philly expats in NYC go check out the Philly Invades Brooklyn party next month!
So recently I bought my boyfriend a subscription to the beer of the month club, and wanted to give some fun beer accessories along with the card since the first beers were not there yet. To my surprise finding beer accessories was much harder than imagined so I thought I’d make it easier for you guys by providing a list of some of my favorite beer accessories
Beer bands — never misplace your beer again!
Bottle Opener Flip Flops — nothing beats a beer on a warm day!
Family Guy Pint Glasses — enjoy your beer that much more!
If you’re on your game you have been planning the dinner for weeks, but what about the drinks? Description courtesy of uncrate.com - Sure, the DraughtKeg is handy, but it’s also a little messy, and takes up quite a bit of room in the fridge. The Heineken BeerTender (available 3/08) solves these problems by serving as a standalone beer-serving machine, made especially for the 5L DraughtKeg. Co-developed with Krups, the BeerTender features integrated refrigeration to keep your beer the ideal temperature, and the built-in display lets you know when it’s time to refill. Plus, with its advanced pressure system, you’ll get the perfect pour every time.
As you may or may not yet be aware, tomorrow is Fat Tuesday aka Mardi Gras. So in the spirit of one of our favorite holidays why don’t you sit down and make yourself a Mardi Gras Flasher. It will make you feel like you’re actually there (ok maybe not its almost impossible to create that big of a party in just one drink…so maybe have two). Enjoy!
Ingredients:
2 shots dark rum
6 shots Ginger Ale
1 tsp grenadine
Mix together with crushed ice in a glass and garnish with mint leaves!
It’s late on the eve after what was probably the best Super Bowl in my lifetime, and NOT just because I’m a Giants fan!
An intense game played with passion and conviction on both sides of the ball. One full of incredible defense, spectacular plays (See picture below), and three lead changes in the fourth quarter that made for the dramatic finish we could only dream of in a game of this caliber.
My hangover may have subsided, but my sense of euphoria has not!
